GTA Muslims Unite Against Hunger!
Food Banks Need Your Help!
A Winter 2018-19 Fight Hunger Campaign
Please collect and distribute non perishable food items to your local food banks
and especially to the 4 high need food banks listed below. Let us unite and
mobilize against hunger and poverty in the GTA!
Food Bank Facts:
– each month, over 850,000 people turn to food banks for help; more than one-third are
children and youth
– there has been an almost 10% rise in food banks assistance in Canada in recent years
– a person or family is “food insecure” when they worry that they won’t be able to afford enough
food, eat suboptimal food because they can’t afford better, or skip meals because they are
unable to purchase enough food
– in Etobicoke, food bank use had jumped by 170% over the past 10 years, while Scarborough
clients have increased by 86% over the same time span – these areas have fewer food banks
than downtown Toronto, making it hard to meet demand
